Laelia briegeri [Kew = Cattleya]
Items Remaining:12

Plants are flowering size in 2" baskets.

Photos courtesy:

This species in native to a small area of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a compact growing miniature plant. Growths are typically 3” – 4” tall with little to no space between. Growths consist of a ¾” – 1” tall pseudobulb topped by a HEAVY textured leaf. Leaves are similar in texture to that of Rhyncholaelia.  Inflorescences are 6” – 10” tall and carry 3-6 flowers. Individual flower are 1 ¾” – 2 ¼” across. Flowers are a bright dark yellow. The labellum has some red to rust veins deep in the throat. Plants will survive in Cattleya culture but require brighter light and a media that drains VERY well. In its natural habitat it is rare that the temperatures are above 85F. In the natural habitat plants grow during the typical rainy season March – September. A cooler drier period occurs September – March when plants typically flower.

Formerly a member of Laelia subgenus Parviflorae section Parviflorae. The rupicolous Laelia of Brazil have undergone many changes recently. DNA work has moved them between Sophronitis and Cattleya. Another interpretation of the data placed them in the newly created genus Hoffmannseggella. In Brazil Hoffmannseggella is preferred, but Kew dominates and they are Cattleya for hybrid registration. Rupicoulous means rock growing and is a hint as to how to grow the plants.  For more information on the taxonomy please refer to:

The orchid arrived quickly & well protected in it's package for the ride to my house. I appreciate the affordability of your company and am excited to be able to purchase exotic orchids not available in flower shops and other stores in my city. This is my 2nd Catt, & compared to my 1st purchased at another online site, I can see that ordering from Marlow's Orchids was a sure bet! My orchid's root system & foliage is the picture of health! Thank you Marlow's Orchids, youve got yourselves a fan- Andrea L.

I ordered an orchid for my father and called to make sure it could ship in winter weather ok.  I was very reassured and the orchid arrived in perfect condition on a cold December day.  The heat pack was still warm. This has been a great experience, beginning to end.  Martha
