     Friend Kai from Hilo grew these plants beautifully.  I don't know how long he has had them but each has 20+ growths and many are in bud now (Sept 2011) There are so many roots on these plants that the pot cannot be seen.  The flowers are very intriguing and curious with hairs on the petals.

    Origin, Habitat- Northeastern Australia. Plants are found only in the McIlwraith Range on the Cape York Peninsula. Plants stay compact and will grow well in bright light conditions.  A dryer, cooler winter rest until growth resumes in the spring is helpful to create blooms in the spring.

    Cattleya coccinea is now an accepted name for Soph coccinea.  Plants are growing in 3" pots. 5-8 bulbs per plant.  These plants are 4N and have beautiful orange-red flowers which are 2-21/2 inches in diameter.  Selected from a group of premium plants bred in Japan.  Blooms 3 times a year.
