Angraecum group primarily native to Africa, Madagascar, and the Indian Ocean Islands.  Noteworthy genera include Aerangis, Aeranthes, Angraecum, Eurychone, Jumellia, and Plectrelminthus.    There are also a few South American members of this group such as Campylocentrum.  Flowers are usually white or cream with a long nectary spur.  Flowers are often strongly fragrant.

    A compact plant.    A native of western and central tropical Africa.  Plants will be 5" - 8" tall.  Leaf-span will be 8" - 12" across.  Inflorescences are 12"- 20" long. Inflorescences produce 6-15 well spaced flowers.  Each flower is 1" - 2"  across with a 2" - 3" long spur.  Flowers are white to off white with a pink tip to the spur.  Plants will grow well with Phalenopsis in intermediate to warm temperatures.  Misting is suggested.  Mounting is prefered.     A miniature plant with stems 3" - 5" tall.   Leaf-spans are 4" - 7" across.  Inflorescences are 12" - 20" long and produce  8-15 flowers.  Flowers are produced almost simultaneously and provide a 4-6 weeks display.  Individual flowers are 3/4" - 1 1/2" across.  Flowers are typically white to off-white.  Flowers are reported to have a light citrus fragrance at night.  Plants can become specimen plants in 3-4 years resulting in multiple sprays of 1 inch flowers.   Flowers in late Winter to early Spring.  Plants grow well in intermediate to warm temperatures and bright light 4-5 hours of light   Misting is suggested.

    (fastuosa x citrata)

    A rarely made hybrid Aerangis.  These produce 5-8" long inflorescences.  Aerangis citrina produces long MANY small flowered inflorescences.  Aerangis fastuosa produces short 4-6 flowered inflorescences with large flowers with a very long spur.  The inflorescences  of the hybrid will produce 4-8 flowers.    Each flower is 1 1/2" - 2" wide.  Flowers will last 4-6 weeks.   Grow intermediate to warm and moist with a very well drained medium or mounted.

     A miniature plant.  This species is native to central Africa.  Stems are 2"-5" long.  Leaf-spans will be 4" -6". Inflorescences will be 6" - 14" long.  Flowers are carried in two opposite rows and form a flat presentation.  Inflorescences produce 6-12 flowers.  Individual flowers are 1" - 1 1/2" tall.  Flower parts are white to off white.  The distinguishing character of this species is the bright dark orange-red to red column in the center of the flower.  This makes it by far the most beautiful Aerangis.   Mature plants will multiple and produce specimen plants will many inflorescences.  This is a good windowsill or light garden plant.  Prefers intermediate to warm temperatures and bright indirect light similar to Phalaenopsis or Paphiopedilum.  Misting is suggested.

    One of the larger Aerangis but the plant is relatively compact.  A native of Madagascar and the Comoran Islands.  Plants will be 4" - 6" tall.  Leaf-span will be 8" - 12" across.  Inflorescences are 12"- 20" long.     Medium sized Angraecum relative.  This species is native to very wet forests of Madagascar.  Plants will grow 6" - 12" tall with leafspans 10" - 20".  Inflorescences are pendant, thin and wirey, simple or branched, and  6" - 20" long.  Many flowers are produce successively with one open at a time.  NEVER cut off old inflorescences as they MAY continue to flower for several years. Individual flowers are 2" - 3" across.   Sepals and petals are icy-green to medium green.  The labellum is slightly lighter green to off white.   These bloom in Summer and Fall.   Plants prefer a few hours of direct sunlight a day.  This equates to light levels similar to Cattleyas.  Plants prefer to be kept constantly moist.

    A member of section Angraecum.  Often found listed as Angraecum girymae.  This species is native to Kenya and Tanzania.This is a large Angraecum with 10" - 24" stems.  Leaf-span will be 10" - 24".   Inflorescences are 10" - 24" long and produce 10-30 flowers.  Individual flowers are extremely waxy and 3 1/2" - 4 1/2" wide with a 2" - 4" long spur.  Sepals are medium green.  The labellum is white, off-white, to white-green with a darker throat. VERY fragrant.  These will grow well with Cattleyas or Vandaceous orchids.  They like bright light.  Let these plants dry out between watering.  As with most Angraecums, plants will sulk if the roots are disturbed or damaged.

    A member of section Angraecum.  This is Darwin's Orchid.  A native of Madagascar.  This is a large plant that produces HUGE flowers.  Plants are 10" - 36" tall.  Leaf-spans are 12" - 24" wide.  Inflorescences are 10" - 14" long.  The inflorescences produce 2 - 6 flowers.  The  flower is 5" to 7" across with a spur 10" - 14" long.  Flowers are pristine white, some have green tips to the sepals and petals.     A member of section #6.  This is a wonderful introduction to the genus Jumella.  This species is native to the island of Grand Comoro in the Indian Ocean.  Plants grow 6" to 24" tall.  Leaf-span in 7" - 10".  In nature these plants are limp and scrambling, but in cultivation they can be staked to stay upright.  Plants will frequently and generously branch from the bases.  Inflorescences are 4" - 6" long and single flowered.   Flowers are 1 1/2" - 2" wide with a 4" - 5" long spur.  Flowers are pristine white and some are fragrant at night.   These will grow well with Cattleyas.

    Sobennikoffia robusta is a hard to find plant native to Western Madagascar and grows both lithophytically and epiphytically and sometimes is found growing terrestially in sandy soils at the base of trees. 12-18 longlasting white flowers are beautifully presented on arching stems.
